Skimaking a great success at Høstfest

Skimaking at the Skien & Telemark booth at the 2009 Norsk Høstfest in Minot ND in October was a great success. Tarjei Gjelstad from Morgedal got the idea when he visited Norsk Høstfest in 2008, and he brought with him old tools and materials when he set off for Minot in North Dakota early in the morning on Sept 28.(more).

Most years in the past Skien and Visit Telemark have had some non financial support from other communities and organizations in Telemark at the Norsk Høstfest in Minot ND. In 2009 the support was more organized by including most activities at Norsk Høstfest in a project plan called "Telemark Heritage - incoming tourists 2009". Telemark Community Council is part of this project plan.

The new project made it possible to "put Morgedal on the Høstfest-map" by introducing skimaking and a film about skiing in Morgedal in the Skien/Telemark booth.

Skimaking attracted old and young people, also children. And two different American TV-teams came and recorded how Tarjei made the ski models. The Morgedal video film attracted a lot of children, and we think that many of them wanted to go skiing after having seen the video.
